In the summer of 1972, Audi's chief engineer Ludwig Kraus presented the Audi 80, which continued the policy started with the Audi models 100.
The car featured a four-cylinder engine with overhead camshaft, who later is also adopted the Volkswagen Group, to reach eventually become the highest volume engine production in VW.
The Audi 80 was an unquestionable success. Within six years were produced and sold over a million units of this model.
